Our History

We are three brothers from Carinthia who view brewing as a fascinating, precise craft, driven by the question of what is possible when you create special experiences from selected, finest ingredients. Which hops develop which aromas. What an Imperial Stout becomes after a year in a bourbon barrel. Why a Black IPA must be so perfectly balanced.

BrauKunst (Brewing Art) is more than just a word to us. It is the conviction that a beer can be a work of art. In taste, craftsmanship, and appearance. Each of our cans is designed by artists who translate the character of the respective beer into an image. The birds on the cans represent the origin of the hops, the character of the beer style, and our surname: Vogelsang.

We brew with our friends at Bierol in Schwoich, Tyrol, because they work exactly the way we think and share our passion for fine beer. The recipes are developed by us in Carinthia, and we ensure the quality together.

Always available:

The Schnepfenstrauß (Kiwi) is our first beer. A New England IPA with New Zealand Motueka hops. Floral, fruity, soft, with mango and passion fruit aromas on the nose and palate. Gold at the 2023 World Beer Awards in London and Austria's highest-rated New England IPA on Untappd in 2024. The name: The national bird of New Zealand is called "Schnepfenstrauß" in German.

The Schopfwachtel (California Quail) is a Black IPA. Black as a stout, but hoppy and fresh as a West Coast IPA. Hoppy, fruity, with a subtle roasted malt note that you feel more than you taste. Silver at the 2025 World Beer Awards, Gold at the 2026 Untappd Community Awards Austria.

The Vogelfrei (Free as a Bird) is our non-alcoholic IPA. Citrus hops, floral aromas, fresh malt. No compromises. Silver in London in 2025 for taste and design, Gold at the 2026 Untappd Community Awards.

The Ribisco is a collaboration with Kein & Low from Vienna. A non-alcoholic fruited sour with organic red currants. Fruity-tart, complex, refreshing. 93 points at the 2026 Falstaff Non-Alcoholic Trophy.

Limited / Seasonal:

The Zwergohreule (Scops Owl) is our Double Dry Hopped New England Double IPA. Tropical, dense, with high intensity. Slovenian hops. Silver at the 2026 Untappd Community Awards.

The Gebrüder Zwickl (Brothers' Zwickl) is our most down-to-earth beer, and intentionally so. A dark red cellar beer whose color comes from select malt varieties, which also give it a pleasant, round sweetness. Slim body, highly drinkable, not a beer that needs explaining. For every occasion and for everyone who just wants a really good beer in between.

The Bienenfresser (Bee-eater) is our Honey Pale Ale. Brewed with real wildflower honey from Landschaftshonig Österreich in Burgenland and the Slovenian hop variety Styrian Kolibri. Soft wildflower and pollen aromas, citrus fruit, a hint of elderflower. The body is lean and dry; the honey sugar is almost completely fermented, leaving behind pure elegance.

What we brew with friends:

In addition to our core range, we create limited batches with fellow breweries or partner businesses that share our passion for special products and artisanal precision.

The Corvus Corax with First Craft Beer from Budapest is an Imperial Pastry Stout. Creamy, with notes of coffee, caramel, and maple syrup. For those who see beer as the perfect end to an evening.

The Goldzeisig (Eurasian Siskin) with Wappler Brewing is a Sour IPA with Muskateller wine from Lower Austria, sourced from our friends at the Florian Weiss winery. Fruity, tart, with the floral character of the Muskateller.

The Winter Affair was created at the Zichovec Winter Affair Festival in Prague, one of Europe's most renowned craft beer festivals, to which only breweries hand-picked by Zichovec are invited. The beer is an Ice Cream Sour with raspberries, blackberries, tonka beans, and beetroot. Dense, fruity, almost like a smoothie.

The Qingluan is the logical evolution of the Corvus Corax. A portion of the Corvus Corax rested in a bourbon barrel, was then blended with a Barley Wine that had spent over a year in bourbon barrels itself, and then aged for three weeks on walnuts and pecans. The result is almost liqueur-like. Multi-layered, nutty, dessert-like. A beer that took its time and shows it.

The King Louis III with Hanf & Hopfen from Vienna is a Hazy Pale Ale with hop terpenes. Aromatic, soft, accessible, yet very special.

Our New Zealand Pils, again with First Craft Beer from Budapest, is brewed with five New Zealand hops: NZ Cascade, Motueka, Nelson Sauvin, Super Sauvin, and Riwaka. Instead of classic Pilsner wort, notes of citrus, tropical fruit, and a hint of white wine come to the fore.

The Karmingimpel (Common Rosefinch) was created with our friends from Liquid Story in Braunschweig, brewed together at Yankee&Kraut. A rhubarb pale ale: fresh, zesty, with notes of citrus and tropical fruits that combine with the crisp acidity of real rhubarb. Slim in the body, dry and long in the finish.
