Bienenfresser (bee-eater, Merops apiaster) and honeybee (Apis mellifera), a coexistence. A living together, a living side by side, sometimes a clash. In spring a flock of bee-eaters flies from North Africa to the northern Burgenland. Warmth, steep loess walls, plenty of blossoms and honeybees make it a good habitat.
The Style
A pale ale with blossom honey from exactly this landscape, from Landschaftshonig Österreich. The yeast ferments the honey sugar almost completely. What stays is a dry, lively beer that smells of flowers. Then there is the Slovenian hop Styrian Kolibri.
In the Glass
Light golden, slightly hazy. Wildflowers, pollen, a little citrus and elderflower. Light body, restrained bitterness, clean finish.
Serving
At 6 to 8 °C in a white wine or champagne glass. With goat cheese, or just on its own on a warm evening.
